Inverter Technology and Its Origins

Inverter Technology and Its Origins

Modern air conditioning owes much of its efficiency to an innovation developed in Japan in the 1980s. This innovation, known as Inverter technology, transformed the way air conditioners manage temperature and energy.

1. What is Inverter Technology?

A conventional air conditioner operates in a binary manner. The compressor switches on at full power until the desired temperature is reached, then turns off. This repetitive cycle consumes a lot of energy.
The Inverter, on the other hand, adjusts the compressor speed according to the room’s ambient temperature. Once the ideal temperature is reached, it reduces the compressor’s power instead of stopping it. This continuous regulation prevents sudden temperature changes and limits electricity consumption peaks.

2. Origins of the Inverter

The concept was born in Japan, in the context of energy efficiency research following the oil crises of the 1970s. Engineers aimed to reduce energy dependence and costs while extending equipment lifespan.
The company DAIKIN was a pioneer in developing this technology. The principle then spread worldwide, first in Asia, then in Europe and Africa, thanks to the success of this innovation.

3. How the Inverter Works

The system’s core relies on an electronic inverter that controls the frequency of the current supplied to the compressor. This inverter continuously adjusts the motor speed based on the room’s thermal needs.
Fewer restarts, less mechanical stress, and more stable performance. The result: 30–40% lower consumption compared to a conventional model.

4. Key Advantages

•    Energy Savings: Power modulation prevents consumption peaks.
•    Thermal Comfort: Temperature remains stable without sudden cold drafts.
•    Quiet Operation: The compressor runs slower once the desired temperature is reached.
•    Durability: Less mechanical wear thanks to continuous, smooth operation.
•    Environmental Friendliness: Reduced electricity demand and associated emissions.

5. Inverter and ADTF

With ADTF, air conditioners sold are equipped with Inverter technology and adapted to local conditions. They provide optimal comfort while lowering energy costs.
This approach aligns with sustainable performance, giving users a pleasant climate and controlled consumption.

6. Summary

Inverter technology represents a major evolution in air conditioning. Born out of the need for efficiency, it has become a global standard. Its simple yet ingenious principle transforms every air conditioner into an intelligent, economical, and durable device.
